How to download an e-book from Overdrive

I feel like I should be writing a full lesson plan! If I had taught another year or two this is what I was hoping to teach.  I'll skip the focus and get right to the important stuff!  I want to say that these are basic steps.  For advanced items such as installing a epub reader on a Kindle Fire.....well email me I guess!

Materials:
FIRST You need a e-reader.  It can be one of many types including your laptop.  I have a Kindle Fire (thanks Mom and Dad) and Lew has an I-pad.  We read from the same Kindle account.  You can have up to five devices on the same account.
SECOND: You need a library card from a public library that has e-books available for loan through overdrive.  To check this go to overdrive and enter your zip code.  Does your library show?  Is so, you may have to call the library to get your card number activated for overdrive. You can not proceed until you have this done.  Libraries provide the cards for free!  Get one....use it.

Directions:
OVERDRIVE STEPS
1. Go to overdrive .  Log-in or search for your library by using the zip code.
2. Do a search for a book.  This can be simple by typing in the title or author or complex by using Boolean Logic under advance searching.  Check for availability.  Check for type.  Some readers use the kindle format but most use adobe E-pub.
3.  Add your selection to "digital cart."
4.  When you are done selecting books "continue to checkout."
5.  When you proceed, you will need to enter your library card number.  It does not use spaces as a general rule.  When you are finished you will see a screen where you can check on the type, set your loan period and how many books you presently have checked out.
6.  "Confirm checkout."

KINDLE Steps
1. Click on "get for Kindle"
2. Go to kindle and "get library book" from the upper right hand area of the screen.
3. Download to your device.

E-Pub Steps
1. Confirm Checkout
2. Download to your computer.
3. Upload as you normally would to your device.

If your e-pub device has web services you usually still have to download to a computer before uploading to your device using software that you can download at the overdrive homepage.

Please email me any questions or leave as comments.

Enjoy reading your FREE LIBRARY book!
